It’s a go for the City of Mati’s Summer Fun activities come April to June 2020.The City Tourism Office and the Tourism Events have decided to push through with the scheduled activities despite the threat of Covid-19 after no less than the Department of Health along with the Department of Tourism and the Department of Interior and Local Government have jointly issued a statement allowing public gatherings or conventions provided they strictly follow the health safety protocol.

The Summer Fun will kick-off with the Holy Week celebration on April 9. Other activities lined-up for the two-month long Summer Fun are the Skim Fest (skimboarding competition), Beach Ultimate (frisbee competition), Arts Fest, Beach Volley, Dance Battle, Dive Safari, Dagan-Sikad-Langoy, and Battle of the Bands.

Tourism Officer Dashiel Indelible Jr. said they will be strictly enforcing the interim guidelines coming from DOH with regards to Covid-19.At the moment, Indelible said, they are constantly reminding all tourism-related enterprises in the city to also conduct their own measures for the prevention of spread of Covid-19 and the protection not just of their visitors but their workers as well.Tourist arrivals in the City of Mati has been in constant rise especially during the summer season due to various activities from both the local government and the private sector.In January 2019 , there were 15,426 recorded tourist arrivals in the city while this year for the same period there were 18,124.

There were a total of 272,400 arrivals for 2019 with the month of December registering the highest number with 51,105. Of the figure only 10% of the tourists are foreigners or about 24,730. (CIO MATI)
