The Mati City Health Office has achieved 92.27% coverage of its target population for the 3rd round of the polio immunization campaign.

Dr. Ben Hur Catbagan, Mati CHO head, said that a total of 16,137 under 5-year old (0-59mos) children have been immunized as of February 2, 2020.

This, he said, represents 92.27% of the 17,488 they target to be immunized.

The latest percentage is higher than the 90% coverage they achieved during the 2nd round.

“We thank all the stakeholders from the central office, region , province , city  down to the barangays  who  have contributed to the increased coverage in protecting our children from polio,” Catbagan said.

Meanwhile fourth and fifth rounds of the same vaccine are also scheduled, this time for another strain of the polio virus recorded in Basilan and the nearby country of Malaysia.

In the fourth and fifth rounds, Bivalent Oral Polio Vaccine will be given to 0-59months after 28 days of Monovalent Oral Polio vaccine dose.

The fourth and fifth rounds of Bivalent Oral Polio Vaccine are scheduled on February 17 to March 1, 2020 and March 23 to April 5, 2020. (CIO MATI)
