CDRRMC COMMENDS DXHM-AM 4/1/2011 by City of Mati (April 01, 2011) – The City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC) of Mati passed and approved a resolution commending the radio station DXHM – AM (Ang Radyo Totoo) for its exemplary and outstanding public service during the Tsunami Alert on March 11, 2011. The CDRRMC acclaimed the pivotal role of DXHM-AM in helping the consitituents of the City of Mati in finding order in the midst of chaos and for its loyalty, dedication, professionalism and nationalistic attitude in their service in the province. Mayor Michelle N. Rabat as Chairman of the Council believes that without the powerful advocacy tool of the Media, most people would not have been aware of the Tsunami alert. Warning communication plays a vital role to update and advise the public on what to do in prevailing situation. Last March 11, 2011, shortly after 8.9 earthquake hits Japan, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center (PTWC)  issued tsunami watches and warnings for locations in the Pacific including the Philippines. The PHIVOLCS cited the province of Davao Oriental as one of the provinces to be affected by the resulting Tsunami. The CDRRMC through the DXGM Radio Sttion immediately issued a widespread tsunami warning covering the entire Mati. The council also commends the station as it unconditionally and without hesitations cancelled all its regular programs upon the request by the council to solely render theifr airtime in disseminating information anent the impending catastrophic even that would struck the city. The timely and constant dissemination of information through DXHM plays a vital role in updating the public on the prevailing situation and DXHM became the epicenter for spreading the news and thereby helping in the orderly conduct of evacuations by the constituents.
