MATI-PNP IS BEST RURAL POLICE STATION IN THE COUNTRY

2/2/2010
by Neela G. Duallo

After all the hurdles have been met, after  the painstaking efforts to comply even with the toughest of their work, and after they went through the evaluation for their nomination in the search for The Best Rural Police Station, the Mati-PNP bagged the very prestigious recognition.

In the Awarding Ceremony held in Manila last week, with the presence of no less than President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and PNP Director General Jesus Versoza, five members of the Mati PNP led by Mati Chief of Police Pol. Supt. Fermin Valdez, Deputy Chief Sr. Pol. Inspector Lesli Ann Lerios, SPO3 Napoleon Aguinaldo, SPO1 Fred Landoy, and PO3 Federico Pelobello  received the award, all beaming and exuding with pride and triumph.

Earlier, Mati-PNP was already scuffling with emotions as they were included in the Top 3 finalists for the said award.

“The evaluators consolidated their assessment and submit their assessment and endorsement to the PNP Director General who rendered the decision,” Mati Chief of Police Fermin Valdez said.

Though being one of the three finalists is in itself, already a big honor for Mati, but there is reason to hope for the best.

Among the basis in choosing the Best Rural Police Station is the performance of the station, and the administrative operation.

Mayor Michelle Rabat is happy with the achievement of the Mati-PNP.

“I have always been supportive to the Mati Police. I am very particular with their need, that is why the city government is trying to provide with such, like the computers, digital camera, and most importantly, their fuel for their operations,” the Mayor explained.

The Mati-PNP is very grateful to the city government for all the support because the Station could not have brought home the honour if not because of the consistency of Mayor Michelle Rabat’s support .

After, the city government will be working on the new building for the Mati-PNP.

“We already have the site for the new building, a 1,800 square meters lot. It will be a counter parting scheme with the PNP.

Also in the top three are the Tiwi Police Station in Albay, and Zamboangueta in Negros Oriental.

The two contenders are fourth class municipalities, while Mati is a first class municipality before it became a component city.

City Vice-Mayor Cesar de Erio said that any Matinian could feel the honor and the pride with the accomplishment.

“Though just like any other police stations, Mati-PNP is not perfect, who is anyway? And admittedly there are isolated cases that the Station has to really look into, but Mati-PNP is working on that, and with the award, I hope it will boost their morals and will lead to a more energetic and effective teamwork in complying to their tasks,” he added.
