MATI MOVES TO ESTABLISH INTERIM SCHOOLS DIVISION

11/24/2009
by Neela G. Duallo

After a directive from the Dept. of Education-Dep-ed Central Office mandating the interim schools diviso office of Mati to go back to the Davao Oriental Schools Divisiion Office, Mati expeditiously made a move to establish it’s own schools division.

The Parents Teachers Association of Mati Central Elementary School submitted to Education Secretary Jesli Lapus a resolution strongly requesting for the establishment of an interim school division for the municipality of Mati .

The Secretary visited Mati last week to personally witness turn-over ceremonies of school building projects funded by the department.

Dvo Or OIC Schools Division Superintendent Reynaldo Guilllena is in all support to such move.

“With the creation of an interim schools division for Mati, there can now be focus in attending to the schools and students of Mati. And should this happen, this will also mean a move to address the educational concerns and needs in the locality,” he said.

One of which is the drop-outs in Mati.

Guillena is happy that the Dep-Ed family, particularly the teaching force were able to meet with the Secretary.

“I hope they were able to internalize the message and challenge of the Secretary,” he furthered.

He emphasized that the Secretary gave some very important points in one of his messages.

“Very important is the desire of Sec. Lapus to instill to the teachers the importance of their performance to get the participation of the students and pupils, and the aim to lessen and eventually eliminate the cases of drop outs in Mati,” he explained.

The OIC Schools Division Supt. Said that the challenge now is how to heed to another challenge of making education, really the solution of all the problems embracing the country now.

Mati has 51 elementary schools and 14 secondary schools with the addition of the Macambol National High School-Dawan Amnnex, and is composed of three districts, the Mati Central, North, and South District.

Education is among the top development agenda of the incumbent local and provincial officials.

“It is our dream that Mati will become the center for education, particuaarly in the province of Davao Oriental ,”said Mayor Michelle Rabat.

The provincial government is continuing with its thrust also in implementing measures gearing towards zero illiteracy.
