An estimated 200 modified mufflers also known as “bora-bora” were destroyed Friday, May 29, as part of the campaign of the City of Mati LGU against noisy motorcycles.

The mufflers were publicly destroyed beside the Madang Public Market around 4:00 in the afternoon for the people to see what will happen to their mufflers if they continue using the illegal ones.

The event was attended and witnessed by City Administrator Atty. Alejandro A. Aquino, Napoleon A. Aguinaldo, head officer of City Traffic Management Office, and several traffic officers.

The modified mufflers were confiscated during the round the clock operations of CTMO and the group of Atty. Aquino.

Anthony G. Lazaro, ground officer of CTMO, said that they are closely watching drag racing activities in the city involving minors.

Once caught, the CTMO will temporarily hold the motorcycle unit and confiscate the modified muffler. CTMO will issue a citation ticket to the erring driver for the penalties to be paid in the City Treasurer’s Office.

The said penalty will depend on the documents that the driver will present during the apprehension such as driver’s license and registration.

Lazaro said that a proxy of the owner can claim the confiscated unit provided that the proxy can present the license, registration and bring helmet or complete gear in driving a motorcycle.

“Usa kini ka mando sa atong gobyerno para sa road clearing para sa hapsay nga dalan. Manghinaot lang ko kanatong tanan nga kini leksyon ni sa ato nga dili nato tugutan ang syudad sa Mati na mahimong bora-bora country,” Atty. Aquino said. (CIO MATI)
