As the 200 sky lanterns made their way up high, Mayor Michelle Rabat express profound happiness for the conduct of the Earth Hour  of which, the releasing of the sky lanterns is one of the highlights.

Symbolizing peace, and unity of all sectors, the sky lanterns gave the message of hope that with all the concerted efforts of all stakeholders, something can be done to preserve and save Mother nature.

Such, was the message of the one hour switching off lights on March 31, 2012, from 8:30-9:30 in the evening.

For the 5th time, the City of Mati  actively participated in the Earth Hour on March 31, also a global call for awareness to Global Warming, insinuating the great need for environmental preservation and protection.

Earlier, City Mayor Michelle N. Rabat ordered a stronger participation from all city offices, department heads, heads of offices in the provincial government, national line agencies, and the 26 Barangay Councils of Mati to the Earth Hour, and other activities embedded by the city government to the switching off of non-essential lights.

She cited the participation of the youth in said very worthwhile activity.

“I am glad that at their young age, they showed concern to our environment. We have to start them young, showing them the cause that we are into for Mother Earth, and that we are doing this for them, so that they can experience and appreciate the beauty of nature,” she explained.
With the observance of the Earth Hour 2012, the local government of Mati is looking forward to another victorious hour for Mother Earth, as it plans another strong participation with the rest of the world to the next, the 2013 Earth Hour.

“Precisely this is because there is no stop to our fight for our environment. We owe it to Mother Earth and the next generation,” she concluded.

The activity was held at the Mayor Francisco G. Rabat Park and Baywalk, the converging point of all Matinians, spending quality time together to strengthen beautiful relationships, thresh out things, and design plans for the future.  (Ms. Neela G. Duallo)
