Mati Launches City HYMN and SAMBUOKAN Theme Song

10/29/2011

With the wisdom and musical expertise of Mr. Dioscoro Vicentino, a native from the City of Mati himself, Mati now boasts of its City Hymn, and theme song of the Sambuokan Festival, launched on Oct. 24, 2011 at the City Hall Compound, after the Flag Ceremony attended by city employees and officials led by Mayor Michelle Rabat.

The City Hymn and the Sambuokan theme Song was heard for the first time, through the LGU-Mati Chorale.

Mayor Rabat expressed gratitude for the superb composition of the City Hymn “Taga-Mati” and the theme song of the Sambuokan Festival, “Magsambuokan Kita”.

Mayor Rabat cited Vicentino for putting into the lyrics the message she wanted to relay to all Matinians, and for the Sambuokan.

“Taga-Mati” aptly describes   Matinians as helpful, accomodating, sincere, obedient, believer in God, and good people.

It also pictures the abundance of Mati in natural resources, from the land to the sea, where people from all walks of life, including the lumad and the tourists are in awe of the said richness.

“Magsambuokan Kita”, on the other hand, entices people to come to Mati where they can unite, and the call to thank God for everything that he has bestowed on His people, while reiterating on unity.

The theme song also serves as a reminder for Matinians of the “one God, and the one Blood that they have, and as such, Matinians ought to love each other.

Mayor Michelle Rabat considered the two songs as a challenge to all Matinians, that Matinians should be proud of being Matinians, and should remain as one for Mati.

Mr. Dioscoro Vicentino is also the composer of “Banwa na Madayaw”, the provincial hym of Davao Oriental.

After the launching, it is expected that the singing of “Taga-Mati” will now be part of the different activities and programs of the city government, and from henceforth, the singing of the city hymn will also become part of the proceedings of the regular sessions of the Sangguniang Panlungsod.
