Mati joins the observance of National Disaster Consciousness Month this July

7/02/2011

The City Government of Mati, through the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (CDRRMC) joins the nationwide observance of National Disaster Consciousness Month 2011 this July in accordance with Executive Order No. 137 dated August 10, 1999.

Mayor Michelle N. Rabat set a meeting with the members of the CDRRMC to plan out the various activities for the said observance.  The activities include hanging of streamers; conduct of IEC on disaster risk reduction, emergency responder’s skills training, earthquake, tsunami,  and flashflood drills and cleaning of canals and radio broadcast.

Mayor Rabat believes that the observance of the National Consciousness Month will heighten awareness on the importance of disaster prevention, mitigation, and preparedness of the Matinians.

‘Makialam, Makiisa sa pagsugpo ng panganib may maitutulong ka,’ is this year’s theme, which focuses on taking simple but potentially life-saving steps to enhance preparedness like preparing an emergency supply kit, being informed about the appropriate response for each disaster, and being involved in community preparedness efforts.

The month-long observance urges all to take appropriate action with regards to personal welfare and protection, and security. LGU – Mati together with the CDRRMC will be supported by the volunteer groups in the city and other private organizations and individuals on the said event.

Mayor Rabat said that the observance of national consciousness month will provide an opportunity to learn more about disasters and how best to prevent and prepare for them.
