CITY OF MATI UPHOLDS 9408 AND APPEALS TO SPREAD THE WEALTH

BY: Neela G. Duallo

         City of Mati

City of Mati, Davao Oriental – After putting on their yellow ribbons, city government employees are on for another advocacy, to instill the great importance of maintaining it’s citihood status. City employees seem never to run out of creativity in thinking of ways on how to “Uphold 9408”, and “Spread the Wealth”.

City Housing and Resettlement Chief Ma. Eden Franco-Quiñones explained that 9408 refers to the House Bill filed by then Congressman Mayo Almario, creating the component City of Mati.

As such, t-shirts will be printed with “Uphold 9408” in front, while the back says “Spread the Wealth”.

The move then, is to create, and strengthen awareness of the plight that the City of Mati is into, the struggle, and then need for cooperation and prayers to make it in the fight for citihood retainment.

“Every Matinian should and must be aware that we are having this fight, and that this would be easier if we stand as one, show the best of our concerted efforts, and let out a big appeal for our citihood,” she said.

The “Spread the Wealth” advocacy pertains to the plea of the League of 16, particularly the City of Mati, to the League of Cities, to share to the neophyte cities whatever it is that they are savoring now because of being cities.

It is public knowledge that members of the League of Cities made it big, became such big cities after obtaining their citihood status.

And also, increasing number of cities can usher more development for the country. With these cities giving their all to bring forth development in their respective places, development is just expected to sprout.

While there has already been hearsays about the Supreme Court’s decision to the Motion for Reconsideration filed by the League of 16, but Mayor Michelle Rabat opts to remain in waiting to whatever the decision might be, and ascertains respect to the decision.

However, Rabat and other city officials are optimistic that Mati will indeed, remain a city because it has the strongest contention to vociferate for citihood.

It was divulged that among the League of 16, Mati has the biggest land area, has the biggest populace, and has the biggest income.

So, while continuing to put on their yellow ribbons, city officials and employees continue the march towards the finish line of the game, saying in unison “uphold 9408”, and “Spread the Wealth”.
